Pre-Screening Guidelines

To make the most of your visit, familiarise yourself with these dos and don’ts before your health screening.

What to bring

  • Identification documents for registration (NRIC, passport, company’s letter or staff pass).
  • Past medical reports, scan results and medication.
  • Spectacles (for vision test). Do not wear contact lenses.
  • Sports attire (for cardiac treadmill stress ECG). We provide sports shoes and socks upon request.

What to wear

  • A comfortable two-piece outfit, preferably with short sleeves.

  • Fasting is required for certain tests, such as blood tests and abdomen ultrasound. Please abstain from food and drinks for at least 10 hours before your appointment, or from 12am on the day of your appointment. Drinking plain water is allowed.
  • Fasting is not required if you opt for non-fasting health screening tests.

  • You may be required to stop certain long-term medications prior to your health screening.
  • If you are diabetic, you may stop your diabetes medication on the day of your appointment. However, if you have Type 1 diabetes mellitus and are on insulin injections, please consult your doctor first.
  • Routine medications for heart conditions and high blood pressure are usually allowed, except for beta-blockers, which should be stopped 1 – 2 days prior to your appointment. If you are on beta-blockers, please consult your doctor for further advice.

Urine collection

  • Please collect a specimen kit from Parkway MediCentre.
  • Follow these steps on the day of your appointment:
    1. Wash your hands thoroughly, and wipe your genital area clean with tissue paper.
    2. Hold the specimen bottle in one hand. Do not touch the inside of the bottle.
    3. Begin to urinate into the toilet bowl. After a few seconds, without stopping the urinary flow, place the specimen bottle in the urine stream to collect urine directly into the bottle until it is half-filled.
    4. Screw the cap tightly onto the specimen bottle and place the bottle in the Ziploc bag provided.

Stool collection

  • Please collect a specimen kit from Parkway MediCentre.
  • Avoid consuming red meat, turnip, cabbage, cauliflower, horseradish, cantaloupe / rock melon, broccoli, citrus fruits and vitamin C supplements for 2 – 3 days before the Occult Blood Immunological (OBI) test.
  • Follow these steps the night before or on the day of your appointment:
    1. Avoid contact with urine. Pass stools directly into a large clean container or onto newspapers placed under the toilet seat.
    2. Transfer the stool into the specimen bottle with the scoop attached to the cap of the bottle. One scoop of stool specimen is sufficient.
    3. Screw the cap tightly onto the specimen bottle and place the bottle in the Ziploc bag provided.
    4. Store the specimen bottle at room temperature away from sunlight.

For ladies

  • Pap smear, blood tumour markers, urine and stool tests should be done at least 5 days after the last day of your period to ensure better accuracy of results.
  • If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, kindly inform our clinic staff.
  • If you are going for a mammogram screening, do not wear any perfume, deodorant, powder, cream or cosmetics under your arms or around your chest area, as it may affect the quality of the mammogram.
